About Us

All homes accessible–healthy–safe

This is what I believed long before I even heard about the Living in Place Institute. I started working with Full Access homes in 1990 when I was asked to help design a four-plex for a woman was in a wheelchair. She wanted to offer housing to others who were in need of accessible living. However, in February of 2017 at KBIS I learned about the Living in Place Institute and I signed up for the program to see if there was something out there that would help with what I had been doing. I did learn some new ideas and used those ideas when my husband and I decided to build a new home. We used many of the Living in Place concepts in the design of the home. Many of the functional designs I used throughout the home had been concepts I developed in the past in other homes. There are no words to express how easy it is to live in a home that allows its occupants to feel relaxed knowing that you can move without restrictions. No stairs to deal with in daily activities. Less worry about possible falls on stairs and uneven surfaces. Lighting, HVAC, Music all controlled by voice or from our mobile phone. A dream come true in our Forever Home where we will be able to live with independence and dignity for the rest of our lives.

LaDonna has been involved with design and construction since 1985. She has worked in many homes creating comfortable environments for their inhabitants. She is especially proud of her work in the area of creating beautiful kitchens and bathrooms that are also safe and functional. LaDonna used many of her past concepts in their home, incorporated ideas from Living In Place and went beyond the concepts that she saw in her CLIPP training and came up with some outside of the box creations that surprised craftsmen working on the house. The design, development and construction of their forever home is her greatest achievement in her field to this point. Mike, her husband, worked for HDR for over 44 years as a lead designer coordinating multidiscipline commercial projects. They worked together on the design of their forever home and it is their hope that this home will lead a movement in the residential construction industry to build all homes that are full access, healthy, safe and beautiful which will improve lives and promote independence and dignity for all ages and abilities.
